Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the extraordinary impact that mothers have on our world.
It's a day to celebrate the incredible effort it takes to build a good life for their families, often while running a business, giving back to the community, and trying to make ends meet for their families.
At Opportunity Fund, we celebrate mothers everyday in our community, as employees, donors, supporters and clients. They come to our offices excited about the idea of growing their businesses, becoming financially independent, and providing opportunities for others. But most importantly, they are excited about transforming the lives of their children through their hard work and example.
For every $1 a woman earns, she invests 80 cents in her family.
Rosa started her daycare business, Loving Day Care, in Harbor City, to support her family and care for the children in her hometown. Thanks to YOUR SUPPORT and three small business loans from Opportunity Fund, Loving Day Care has grown into a thriving home-based daycare with big plans to expand.
I am very thankful for Opportunity Fund,” she said. “They are helping me give my kids a better life.”
Here are some lessons that we’ve learned through our community of moms:
"I love my job! I'm passionate about microfinance and giving a hand up, not a hand out. I'm happy to have found an organization that allows me to do what I love while keeping my work-life balance. I hope my daughters will find passion in what they decide to do too." Alma Elizondo-Bailey, staff member
