Opportunity Fund is thrilled to welcome Gustavo Lasala as Chief Financial Officer!

Gustavo is a seasoned microfinance practitioner, having spent the past 3 years at Progreso Financiero, the largest small-dollar lender helping Latinos build their credit history in the US and the 7 preceding years at ACCION Texas, the largest non-profit microfinance institution in the US. In his role as Senior Director of Sales and Stores, Gustavo led the rapid expansion of Progreso’s footprint from 35 stores to 85 stores in 18 months. By the time he left he led a team of 200 people in 15 regions and 3 states, providing close to 20,000 loans per month. He also acted as liaison with several community development organizations and managed relationships with key business partners and state regulators.

Prior to working at Progreso, Gustavo was Chief Financial Officer of ACCION Texas where he led its financial and backroom operations, helping the organization triple loan production and grow its portfolio from $12 Million to close to $30 Million. In 2003 he conceived and developed the first credit scoring tool applied specifically to microfinance in US. Gustavo also developed Microloan Management Services (MMS), a service center tailored to micro and small business lenders with 15 client organizations in 4 time zones. In recognition of MMS' innovation and scalability, ACCION Texas received awards from Opportunity Finance Network (2007) and AEO (2011).  During his time at ACCION Texas the organization received top CARS and CAMEL ratings and secured an unprecedented $30 Million asset purchase agreement with Citibank (2008), a first in microfinance in US. Earlier in his career he worked for national and international organizations in Latin America.

Gustavo is originally from Uruguay. He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He lives in Mountain View, CA with his wife and 2 children.
