Celebrating 20 Years of Opportunity (Gala event recap)

Posted on Oct 22, 2014 by

On October 18, 2014 Opportunity Fund's community gathered to celebrate 20 Years of Opportunity at our gala in Redwood City. Two hundred fifty supporters came out for an incredible evening that included 'Opportunity Funded' businesses throughout the event: appetizers by food trucks (3-3-3, Adam's Grub Truck, and Kuki's Bowls), a gorgeous dinner by Rebecca Jean Catering and Events, flowers by Paradise Flowers, balloons by Peninsula Party Rentals, chocolates by Schurra's Chocolates, and signs by Yes V Can

We had fun. We raised funds. And we felt incredibly inspired to help close the gap between dreams and opportunity for so many hard-working people in California. Thank you to everyone who joined us and supported us! Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner in a beautiful space, had good conversations with friends old and new, and felt renewed excitement and hope during the awards program.

Opportunity Fund 2014 gala

It was a very special night, as Opportunity Fund celebrated two decades of hope, impact and investments that close the gap between dreams and opportunities. We were inspired by our awardees Tina Ferguson-Riffe and Miriam Torres, and honorees Mark Leslie and Susan Ford Dorsey - all four are extraordinary examples of leadership, determination and success.

20 Years of Opportunity was our most important fundraiser event to-date, helping us support thousands of Californians with the financial services they need to build a better life for themselves and their families. Together, we raised $400,000. The funds raised at the event will say "Yes" to 2,000 entrepreneurs and students this year on their path to success.

Every dollar friends invested Saturday evening produces ripple effects in the community. Because of these individuals, small business owners will now be able to hire more people, expand their businesses and contribute to our local economy, and low-income students will be able to pay for their college education and have a better chance to succeed in the future.

With gratitude,

Eric Weaver
CEO
