Small Business Sunny Suppa, Owner 5ft2in
When Sunny was a design student who had just learned how to sew, friends began asking her to hem their pants for their office jobs. Soon word spread, and she became the self-described “hemming girl” for petite professional women. As Sunny explains, “I found myself surrounded by professional petite women who all encouraged me to start a clothing line for vertically-challenged women, because there’s nothing out there in the stores.” So, Sunny launched 5FT2IN, a pants line designed for professional petite women who are 5’2” and under in all sizes. As part of her core philosophy, Sunny bypasses industry sizing standards in favor of her own sizing based on her understanding of petite women. The mission of 5FT2IN is about empowerment and giving back confidence to petite women. Sunny is beginning to meet with boutique owners to sell her clothing line, and is building up 5FT2IN’s e-commerce capability. As a business advising client of CEO Women, one of Opportunity Fund’s community partners, Sunny was able to enroll in Opportunity Fund’s matched savings program. She used her savings to start up 5FT2IN, and is now using a $2,000 loan from Opportunity Fund to fund design samples and initial production costs.
