Gloria, Owner of Happy Kids Daycare

When I came to this country, it was as if my past had been erased. My mother tongue was no longer useful. I went from managing a staff of forty at a nonprofit for underprivileged children in Colombia to cleaning other people’s houses. I had no credit history. When I came across a flyer about Opportunity Fund at the 4C's San Mateo, I knew I had found an organization that was willing to take a chance on me.
 

Happy Kids is much more than a growing business. My husband and daughters all help take care of the children, so I am able to provide employment for my family. We serve families from all different backgrounds, including families receiving childcare subsidies from the government. I think the care and quality education we provide are a great benefit to people with lower incomes and fewer resources.
I have always believed in the power of strong beginnings.

One day, I hope to purchase a home for my family and set up an independent site for my daycare center. I have a solid business plan that will get me there. Thanks to Opportunity Fund—the financing I have secured, the business education, but most importantly, their confidence in me—I am on my way.
