“College is awesome, but it is expensive."

- Ricky

Ricky's Story

By doubling Ricky's deposit, Opportunity Fund helped Ricky save up enough money to attend San Jose State University and earn a degree in computer science.

Working Towards a Dream

Ricky is an engaging 17-year-old student at San Jose State University. He is majoring in computer science and his goal is to work at a tech company in Silicon Valley.

"College is awesome…but it is expensive." Ricky works at a local McDonalds and his mom is a janitor. They live paycheck to paycheck, and their income is not enough to afford tuition.

Without financial resources to close the gap between financial aid and the full cost of college, too many students drop out. With help from Opportunity Fund's savings program, Ricky won't be one of them.

 Doubling his Deposit

Every month, Ricky puts $115 from his paycheck into his savings account. Next year, he will have $2,000 set aside. Opportunity Fund and donors like you will match his savings to reach $6,000, enough to cover the cost of tuition for one full semester. "I’m the first in my family to go to college. Opportunity Fund’s support gives me confidence that I belong here.”
