“We're bakers, we don't have holidays.”
— Melchor, Mexico Bakery
Melchor needed to expand Mexico Bakery to keep up with its growing popularity. With a loan from Opportunity Fund, Melchor finished construction on the bakery's third location.
Homemade recipes and hard work
"We're bakers. We don't have holidays," said Melchor, who, with his wife Maria, operates East San Jose's Mexico Bakery.
At 3:00 a.m. every morning, Melchor and his 22 employees wake up to make the pastries, empanadas, flan, and tortas that Mexico Bakery is famous for. The treats aren’t just delicious, they’re also a source of income and a way to provide a better life for their families.
Family-owned, Mexico Bakery has been in business for over 15 years. What started as a small shop quickly exploded in popularity. But despite the bakery’s status as an East San Jose institution, the bank turned them down when Melchor and Maria needed funds to finish construction of their third location.
