What to expect when you invest

Together, we can break the cycle of poverty and help
working families get ahead, instead of just getting by.

Opportunity Fund does important work.

Our work significantly increases the economic well-being of our clients. Because of our microsavings programs, Karla was able to graduate from San Jose State University and with a small business loan, Simonida expanded her company to become a million dollar enterprise training hundreds of Californians for specialized jobs in the healthcare sector.

In order to advance the economic well-being of marginalized, working families in California, Opportunity Fund continuously innovates - adjusting program practices based on current data and research. This quality work has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including: CNN Money’s “Top 10 Microfinance Companies – 2011”, US Department of Treasury’s CDFI Fund Award – 2011, and Clinton Global Initiative’s “2011 Commitment Maker.”  For more on Opportunity Fund’s effectiveness, please check out our Social Impact section.

As the largest non-profit microfinance provider in California, Opportunity Fund’s impact goes far.

With over $20 million in loans to more than 1,700 low-income, small business owners, investing in Opportunity Fund provides a strong return on your dollar. Our microsavings program has empowered 3,600 families with money management training, access to financial services and an incentive to save for the future, and three out of four of savings clients subsequently open accounts for their children.

When you donate to Opportunity Fund, you’re supporting more than just a neighbor in need.

Providing financial tools and products to individuals who are left out of the financial mainstream affects more than just our clients - every $1 lent spurs nearly $2 in additional economic activity. Our lending has generated almost $1 million in aggregate tax revenue each year for local and state government and created more than $6 million in new annual wage earnings for clients and their employees. With Opportunity Fund, a tide is rising in the community.

We’re a community-based organization

While some microfinance organizations are for-profit, Opportunity Fund exists to do the most good at the least cost to our clients. This means that our work is subsidized to reduce actual costs and would not be possible without our community’s generosity. Philanthropy simply means “the love of humanity.” Your philanthropy makes this all possible.

Your donation directly supports working families in California, not the IRS

As a 501(c)(3) organization (tax ID is 31-1719434), you can deduct a donation to the Opportunity Fund from your taxes. We have clean financial records (see audit here) and uphold the Donor Bill of Rights.

Our work is made possible by your thoughtful support.
Thank you!
