Strengthening Neighborhoods
Sharon
Main Street Village
Fremont, CA
Amount financed: $320,000
Growing up, Sharon lived in 12 different foster homes. She dropped out of high school and had her son when she was 19 years old. "I was having a very hard time."
When 64 apartments were set to open at Main Street Village - a new affordable housing development for low-income residents at risk of homelessness - Sharon was one of 2,300 people to apply. In November 2011, Sharon and her 1-year-old son were among the first residents to move in.
Opportunity Fund contributed $320,000 to finance Main Street Village. "I'm so grateful to live here! It means I have a safe place to care for my son and the chance for a better life."
