In May 2009, Opportunity Fund hosted a first-of-its-kind conference on microfinance in California. We engaged the state’s business owners, policymakers, practitioners, and investors in discussions about and demonstrations of microfinance strategies and practices unique to the United States. Microfinance, CA raised the profile of microfinance as a powerful tool to combat intergenerational poverty here in California. Participants were inspired by high-quality, informative, and innovative presentations and impressed by the extensive knowledge of our diverse panel of presenters. Client tours gave many attendees the opportunity to enjoy the hands-on experience of visiting local entrepreneurs and seeing microfinance in action. The energy and enthusiasm behind this first-time conference solidified Opportunity Fund’s reputation as a leader in the field of domestic microfinance, and underscored the need for a broader conference in 2010- Stay tuned for Microfinance USA!
